Mad about Mexican

Dare we say, there is nothing better than a night out enjoying tequila, tacos and ceviche. Maybe its the relaxed interiors, the fusion of fresh, vibrant ingredients with generations-old recipes, or the taste sensation that inevitably occurs, but Mexican food is always a good time.

Luckily our coastal town has an abundant supply of freshly pressed corn tortillas at your fingertips and for that we say, muchas gracias!

{antojitos}

11 Steel St, Newcastle West NSW 2302

A 6 minute drive from Terminus

Co-owner Eric Flores heralds from Northern California where he spent most of his life in a small coastal farming and surf town, rich in Mexican culture. From a humble 3m x 3m market stall, to a bolt hole in the cool streets of Carrington, Antojitos now occupies a formidable industrial-sized space in inner city Newcastle. Their focus is freshly prepared street food (think homemade tortillas and salsas), served by good, friendly people in a relaxed, open space. And we are happy to report that they deliver this in spades.

177 King St, Newcastle NSW 2300

The space may be compact but boy, does it deliver some powerful flavours. Such as the spiced potato with pickled hibiscus & fennel or wood smoked salmon with pico, orange crema & avocado tacos. With delightful local couple, Al and Gem Downer at the helm, the service is as wholesome as the food. Open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, and with a liquor licence, this little tacqueira is a staple for locals and a must visit for out-of-towners.

Meantime isn’t *just* Mexican. They’ve got delicious burgers, steaks and small batch brews made on-site. However their street-style tacos and nachos are very popular especially when paired with their incredible margaritas made by the expert bar staff and regular live music.
